Issue 21: With Hope in Our Eyes (OTAKU Last Issue) 21

Welcome to the first issue of 2009! With this let me, on behalf of the Otaku team, wish you a super fantastical 2009. We hope this year has great opportunities for you, and that you grab hold of them and never let go. We also classically wish you LOVEu AND PEACEu!

So many things have happened in the last year, and I am very happy with how 2008 played off. We had many obstacles to overcome, and some of them paid their toll. So in writing this, I am very optimistic about the year to come and find out where life is taking us. OTAKU magazine will sadly be ending the way it is. We have considered other options, but this is unfortunately the way that we must go. I know you probably have no clue as to what I am talking about so page on a couple of pages – it is all explained there.

Issue 20: Join the Battle against Britannia 20
First and foremost, I want to thank everyone who sends us letters and SMSes. I spent most of yesterday going though your letters and it makes my little otaku heart jump for joy when I read about your thoughts and feelings. You are the reason why we do what we do; you are the life blood of OTAKU magazine!

Now I don’t know if any of you have noticed, but the malls and shopping centers have mostly been decorated with funny trees with colorful plastic balls and such. The reason for this is because it’s the festive season! This is the time to give with a happy heart and to celebrate the act of giving, if you will. I know we have many different and diverse readers, and while we might not all believe in the same things, I hope you all have a great December with your loved ones! Whether it is Hanukkah, Christmas or even Chrismikah, we wish you a blessed time! If you are travelling, please do so safely, rather take the road less traveled by and get to where you’re going rather than not make it at all.

Issue 19: What You Need To Know To Survive 19

My previous note went down well with a lot of readers, thank you all for your response to world peace! A lot of people responded and this made me very hopeful about anime’s future in South Africa.

What I’d like to tell you all this time is that every little thing matters. No, I’m not trying to sound like Mr Miyagi or something. Let me give you an example of what I mean: most people would have never thought that there would be an anime magazine in SA, but here we are. A lot of people also didn’t think that we would ever have an anime channel, and we have Animax. What is more, when Animax started, less than a year ago, people made it known that they prefer anime in Japanese with English subtitles. Now we are proud to announce that Animax will be screening the second season of Black Lagoon in Japanese! Yes friends, we voiced your request and now we are seeing the fruit of it. There is still a way to go, but compared to just 4 years ago, SA has come a long way in the anime world! Who knows what the future may hold? SO if you are passionate about something then make the effort, no matter how trivial it might seem. Who knows how it might end? If there is anything else that you would like to voice, suggest or rant, please e-mail me at meaglin@otakumag.co.za

Oblivion: Happy -B day to the Otaku crew!!! Realy loving this mag its the coolest ever!!! good idea puting the net hobbie...realy healping around. well thats all..hope u guys make the next mag egven better!!!~ cye. 8)

zeroJ: Also is it just me or did you guys get a little carried away with the free poster in this months issue. I have 3 identical posters in my magazine. It was still sealed when I bought it, so nobody tampered with it. Just wondering I think you are just lucky!!

Kazuki \(^_^)/: One thing really got my attention in this months issue. That small piece of info on the new Casshern Sins Anime. I hope it is like the original Casshan TV series that came out in the early 1970's. The pics on the official site look pretty damn good; http://casshern-sins.jp/ And when will we see an article on Guyver BioBoosted Armor ( original OVA or Remake ). NewType Magazine did a cover story on it ages ago and it rocked. I have yet to see this wonderfull anime grace your magazine. Also is it just me or did you guys get a little carried away with the free poster in this months issue. I have 3 identical posters in my magazine. It was still sealed when I bought it, so nobody tampered with it. Just wondering

Issue 18: A New Generation of Gundam 18

As for this issue, there is a lot of love to be found in it, primarily TU’s love of mecha, but also something from all of us. Things that surprised me this issue was how BIG Shana is, and how I enjoyed Seirei no Moribito. I also have to mention that Cape Town rocked and among other things, I will not forget the claw. So go on, read this issue and I hope you will not forget it either. All the best my fellow otaku!

Kagutsuchi: Yeah, I was kinda busy, so it took me a while to get to that article, but it is strange that I was the only one that read that article so intently....or no one wanted to report the mistake... Oh well. ^_^

Siemens: Ano... I think there may be something missing in the mag. Page 52, in the Vagabond Manga Article. The article text on that page end with "In the opening scene of the manga, we", but the sentence isn't finished on the next page. What was supposed to be written there? Isn't it odd that of all the people who've read the mag you're the first that noticed?(almost 2 months after release)

Kasumi: DAMN i missed the previous issue!!!!

Issue 17: Gurren Lagann - Fight the power! 17

Without change there will definitely be death! SO what can we do but the impossible; see the invisible, raw raw fight the power!

I have probably listened to the Gurren Lagann soundtrack for the last two weeks straight! I am humming it while I shower, brush my teeth, singing it while I am at the office and I have screamed “ANIKIIIIIII!” out loud in public (yes, everyone stared at me and thought I was crazy). You will undoubtedly see the impact that Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann left on most of the OTAKU staff in this issue. What can I say, we loved it!

Kazuki \(^_^)/: O' well. Atleast knowone can say I didn't try to promote the Audio Section. I will keep on supporting and hope for a larger section sometime in the future.

DaRC: Good Stuff. I'm sure you guys will figure out a way to add AUDIO to the list. I am just glad you guys are willing to add it. High and Mighty Color Rock Pit CD's release date is 2008/03/19 some how this was slip through from our design team… DaRC is going to be very upset with this.--> I kind of thought DaRC would not make a mistake like that with the release date. I enjoy reading that section. I always start reading your mag from AUDIO :P . I was wondering could it be possible to change the AUDIO section from a 2 page Band / Artist article and a 1 page CD review to a -->-->-->1 Page Band / Artist article-->-->--> and a -->-->-->2 page CD review-->-->-->. I noticed that you guys listed this months J-artist Discography on an entire page. Could that space not be better utilized by putting more CD reviews on it. There are so many great CD's that came out this year like -->-->-->Kawada Mami SAVIA-->-->-->, -->-->-->Dir en Grey The Marrow of a Bone-->-->--> etc. By the time you guys review them, they are already a couple of months, if not years old.--> sadly space is an issue and belive me i have campaigned for more... but there are priorities and in Sa getting the music is hard.. I have noticed a much larger following since the mag started, but face it... the majority of readers are anime fans... hell u know how many stupid otaku ive wanted to beat over the head for saying they forward through the intros of anime... its all good.. when i get settled in the lad of the rising sun there will be some changes. and music will get bigger.

Natasha: i did go in look and listen, but it was not there, but i will order it

Issue 4: Bleach: Way of the Samurai 4

Editor’s note

Welcome to our Samurai Special issue. We’ve got a lot of great samurai-focused content this time round. From anime, manga, live-action and gaming, katana are going fly at your from all directions, so sharpen your skills, or duck at the very least, and read on for all the bushido you could want. On a more serious note, however, we’ve decided to temporarily drop the Saikyou Gomi Chronicles comic in favour of a new one starring none other than the Otaku Magazine crew themselves. Saikyou Gomi is not forgotten however, we just felt that a bi-monthly magazine was a bit too much of a wait for a serialized comic strip. It will be revived on the website after some serious revisions have been made to the concept. So from now on you’ll get to enjoy the antics of the OM crew, like the suicidal Tweak, the over-zealous MeagliN or even your jaded and aloof editor, yours truly.

Issue 3: BECK! 3

Editor’s note

Hello and welcome to the third issue of Otaku Magazine. We’re still around and we’re not going anywhere soon. We had some problems to deal with this time – mostly getting work out of people during the holiday season. It wasn’t easy. The manga boys, Tweak and Kharrak were quite good this time, though, so I thought they deserved a mention. Our learning process continues, and the further we go, the better this magazine will get - our team members are falling into the groove of their jobs nicely. Hopefully we’ll continue to see the great support we’ve been getting from our readers, and Otaku Magazine can continue to provide you with otaku lifestyle information for some time to come.

Issue 2: Final Fantasy Overdose! 2

Editor’s note

Welcome to the second issue of Otaku Magazine. We learned a lot from the first issue and took those lessons to heart. Of course it all still culminated in a series of late night and last minute meetings in the end. Everyone was just so busy this month, but we still managed to get this issue done. That’s the dedication which makes this magazine a reality. Thanks to the whole crew for your extra effort this month.
